Fine Motor Skills For Kids Right From the Kitchen
Simple fine motor exercises for kids can be very simple! Rummaging a bit through the kitchen cabinets and drawer for these materials are as easy as 1,2,3!
Beans come in all sizes shapes and textures! Here is a great green activity that is fun and will not only help kids sharpen their motor skills and hand eye coordination, but you may be surprised at how long they will work at it!
I liked to do this as a kid while my mom cooked dinner!
Fine Motor Skills Activity for Kids:
Materials: 2 small bowls, 1 small spoon, 1 cup of beans
Set Up: Set bowls side by side. One bowl should be filled with beans and the other is empty. Have a small spoon ready
Process: Explain to the child he will need to fill the bowl with the spoon. The object is not to drop any! Demonstrate first how you would like it done and go very slowly and deliberately. When you demonstrate the child will really be watching.
Procedure: You may want to say, "Scoop" and "Pour" as you demonstrate. This is a self correcting activity so show the child what they can do if they drop any....hey, no big deal!
Adaptions for little ones: You may want to choose and alternate material for them, Beans in the ears still hold true at times. Bird seed or rice work great!
Extensions: Marbles, pebbles, pony beads, buttons, just about anything you can scoop work great!
